Updated mda freeware AU version plugins

The last (2010 i think?) AU-version build of Paul Kellett’s  wonderful mda free/open-source audiounit plugin bundle doesn’t work for me (not loading and some crashing badly), so I took a few hours and hacked the code a bit to get a working version (because I sorely missed the Leslie plugin), so I’m posting it here in case anyone else had the same problem.

These versions run on every DAW I have here to test them in, from OSX 10.6 – 10.9 in both 32 and 64 bit modes, so hopefully they work for you. They are likely still a bit unstable, but they seem to work for now. I might tweak them more in the future because they are useful to have around, but for the moment I am just happy to have the rotating speaker plug back!

The mda plugs in this bundle are:

Enjoy!  (And thank you Paul and mda for the plugs.)

You can grab them here:

(UPDATE 12/2015: There was an issue where the buffers were not clearing properly when resuming processing in the Talkbox vocoder plugin under newer versions of Logic.  Here is a patched version that should work.  Let me know if it does not and I will do a rewrite of the buffer structure instead of a patch):

(old version is here: http://www.solamors.com/mda.zip)

Send me a message if you have any problems and I’ll look into it.

(UPDATE 10/25/2014: here is the same bundle, updated and optimized for OSX 10.10 Yosimite on newer machines: http://www.solamors.com/mda_plugins_osx_au_2014_ack.zip )

(UPDATE 12/28/2014: I had a request for the project file and source code, so here is the link: http://www.solamors.com/mda-VST-plug-ins-master-xcode6.zip you can navigate to the xcode project by following the red folder tag i.e. mda-au/mda/projects/mda.xcodeproj). I added the new core audio utility classes to the project folder and changed the paths accordingly, so hopefully that will save some trouble.  I just built the project in osx 10.10.1 and Xcode 6.1.1, so it should work fine.  If not, the build settings may just need a bit of tweaking for your machine.

  2. Interesting. I just checked both versions that I posted on osx 10.10-64bit and 10.6.8-32bit, and I can’t reproduce the crash. The ParseInfoPlistArray error should not be the issue since that is just because the plist description string does not match the .r file description because of the way it was originally written.

If you give me more details about your osx version and hardware, I might be able to reproduce it.

Thank you for your great work!
It works in logic pro x(10.1.1) macbook(10.9.2).

The only issue i have encountered is that the mda talkbox makes a crackling sound when playing the track for the second time with the effect on.

    Greetings from the Netherlands!

    Thanks a lot!

  5. Searcher

Hi mate!!. I’ve been searching these for a long time!! Thx so much!! But there’s something wrong with talkbox, in logic pro x (10.3.0) it doesn’t work. I have El Capitan 10.11.6…if you can tell me what can i do i’ve been forever grateful.

  6. No problem. Here is how to do it in Logic: Put Talkbox in an effect insert on a software synth track, open it and choose the audio track as the side chain (upper right pulldown menu in the plugin’s window), click the checkbox for “input swap”. Press play and you should hear nothing, play a note on the keyboard and BOOM — robot voice.

  7. Hi there! im struggling to install these on logic pro x, ive out the mda.components in Library/Audio/PlugIns/Components but it is not showing up in logic pro x, ive checked the plug in manager but i can’t seem to find them!

    • Either logic has to rescan your plugins (from the Plugin Manager window), or it’s security level is set too high for open source stuff to show up. After that, they should be at the bottom of the plugin pulldown under audio units.
